Visiting Web-Sites when You Know the Address.
When you are 'on-line' you will notice a white bar at the top of the screen. This is where you type the address of the site you wish to visit.
Simply click on it and it will go dark blue. When you start typing, the old print will vanish and your typing replace it.
When you have finished the address press the 'Enter' key.
The page that appears is called 'The Home Page' and works like the contents section of a reference book.
Move the pointer around the page and you will find places where the pointer changes to a hand.
These are called 'links' and if you double click on them you will move to another section.
If you want to go back then look at the top left of the sceen and click on the arrow pointing to the left. It takes you back a page at a time. Once youo have gone back a second arrow appears pointing right. This will return you to page you just left.
The best way to learn is to play around with a good site.
Everyone has heard of the BBC site which gives information on almost anything you can think of from 'History' to 'Food'.
Try it at www.bbc.co.uk
You could type this in as above, or just double click on the address above and you will go straight there.
Do you see the hand as you put the arrow over the address? This means that it is a link.
On many sites you have a chance to look for things. If you go into 'food' on this site and select 'recipes' a white space appears in which you can type a choice such as 'fish pie'. To do this then first click in the white box. A flashing line appears. Now type 'fish pie' and then look for a word such as 'go' or 'search'. Click on it.
